Couple Photoshoot at Nymphenburg Palace in Munich: Romantic Couple Photos in a Dreamlike Setting
Why Nymphenburg Palace in Munich is the perfect backdrop for romantic couple photos – with my favourite photo spots, the best time of day, a walk through the park and honest tips for relaxed, natural couple images.

There are places in Munich that feel as if they were built for love – and Nymphenburg Palace sits right at the top of that list for me. When I photograph a couple photoshoot at Nymphenburg Palace, I have baroque façades, wide stretches of water and quiet park paths all within reach at once. It is exactly this mix that makes the images feel romantic without ever tipping into cliché.
In this post I'll take you to my favourite photo spots, share the best time of day, tell you about our walk through the park and give you a few honest tips from real shoots.

Why Nymphenburg Palace is perfect for a couple photoshoot
Nymphenburg Palace is one of the most rewarding backdrops in all of Bavaria for me. Within a few minutes' walk the mood changes completely: from the grand, symmetrical palace forecourt to enchanted paths deep inside the park.
For a couple photoshoot that means variety without long walks. We get elegant, almost regal frames as well as playful, intimate moments between old trees – all in a single afternoon. You'll find more impressions from my work in my couple photography.
And the best part: the vast palace park is freely accessible. You don't need a special permit as long as we keep things relaxed and travel light – a tip that saves you a lot of effort and paperwork.

My favourite photo spots around the palace
Over the years a handful of corners have emerged that I return to again and again. They work in almost any weather and with any couple.
The grand façade and the canal
The central canal in front of the palace is my classic opener. The symmetry of the grounds frames you almost by itself, and on still days the water mirrors the entire façade.
This is where the elegant, wide shots happen – where you stand small in the frame and the architecture speaks for itself. Perfect for loosening up before things get more personal.

The bridges and fountains in the palace park
Behind the palace the park opens up with small bridges, paths along the streams and quiet fountains. I love these transitions for images full of movement: walking together, laughing, pausing, looking at each other.
This is exactly where the photos that feel most genuine are made – because you're moving and not thinking about posing.

Quiet paths away from the main routes
Step off the main avenues and you quickly find calm, almost private corners in the Nymphenburg park. Tall trees, soft backlight, hardly any people.
That's where I love making the close, quiet images: forehead to forehead, an embrace, a soft laugh. These intimate moments are often the ones my couples love most in the end.

Our walk through the palace park
I like to describe our couple photoshoot at Nymphenburg Palace as a little walk – because that's exactly how it feels. We usually meet at the front forecourt, where the baroque façade rises above the water, and let the first frames happen quite casually while you get used to the camera.
From there we stroll along the canal, across the first bridges and step by step deeper into the park. Along the way we keep stopping: for a laugh, a glance, a brief moment of quiet between the trees. You don't have to plan anything – we simply follow the path and see where the light leads us.

The further we go, the calmer it becomes around us. We almost always end up in one of those quiet corners away from the main routes, where the most intimate images are made. This rhythm of walking and pausing eases the nerves all on its own – and turns the shoot into a relaxed afternoon for the two of you.
The best season and time of day for romantic couple photos
Light is everything – and at Nymphenburg Palace the time of day makes a huge difference. My recommendations from experience:
- Golden hour just after sunrise or before sunset: soft, warm light and far fewer visitors.
- Overcast days: no harsh shadows, even skin tones – ideal for close, quiet portraits.
- Spring: fresh greenery, blossoming trees and a light, in-love mood.
- Autumn: golden leaves and rich colours, perfect for warm, romantic images.
In summer the early morning is especially worth it, because the park almost belongs to you alone. Build in a little buffer time too – the loveliest moments rarely happen under pressure. I always plan the exact timing with you individually, depending on the mood you're after.

What to wear for your couple photoshoot
You don't need to buy anything elaborate – quite the opposite. You look your best when you feel comfortable and stay true to yourselves. A few pointers:
- Coordinate your outfits without dressing identically.
- Choose calm, harmonious colours that suit the baroque setting – cream, beige, soft blue, burgundy.
- Flowing fabrics and a dress with movement look wonderfully alive in the park.
- Don't forget comfortable shoes, because we'll cover a bit of ground.
If you're unsure, I'm happy to send you a short outfit guide before the session and talk through the details in advance.

How a relaxed couple photoshoot works with me
Most couples arrive a little nervous – and that's completely normal. My job is to make you forget that tension after the first few minutes.
I work with small prompts instead of stiff poses: walking together, whispering something in your ear, briefly closing your eyes. That's how real reactions happen instead of forced looks. You don't need to know how to stand in front of a camera – that's on me. You can read more about how I work and who's behind the camera on my about page.
A couple photoshoot at Nymphenburg Palace usually takes one to two hours, during which we calmly wander through the most beautiful spots. If you like, you can later combine it with a wedding story – many of my couples start right here, long before the big day.
If this sounds like you, take a look at my pricing and packages or write to me directly through the contact form – I'd love to capture your story at Nymphenburg Palace.
