Engagement Photoshoot at Oktoberfest: Laughter, Lights and a Carousel Just for You
Why an engagement photoshoot at Oktoberfest can be the most joyful start to your wedding planning – with a chain carousel, glowing lights and plenty of real laughter.

You're engaged, the rings are sparkling, and somewhere between hunting for a venue and drafting the guest list one question pops up: what does it actually feel like to stand in front of the camera? As a wedding and lifestyle photographer, my answer is simple – try it out, in a place where the laughter comes all by itself. An engagement photoshoot at Oktoberfest is made for exactly that.
Most couples are nervous before their first shoot together. That's completely normal. But something special happens at Oktoberfest: there is so much to see, hear and experience that you simply have no time to overthink your posture or your smile.

Why Oktoberfest of all places?
The colourful rides, the scent of roasted almonds, the music drifting from the tents – all of it pulls you into the here and now. You look at each other, you marvel, you giggle like two people freshly in love. And that's exactly when the images I love most come to life: not staged, just real.
The beauty of an engagement photoshoot at Oktoberfest is this natural ease. You don't have to "pose" – you just have to be yourselves, right in the middle of one of Munich's most vibrant places.
The chain carousel: my favourite moment
When you settle side by side into the seat, the chains gently clink and you snuggle closer, it's pure nostalgia. The colours of the rides – pink, red, turquoise, gold – give the photos a cheerful, almost playful mood you rarely find anywhere else.

A little tip from experience: the loveliest shots often happen just before the ride starts, when you're already seated and glancing at each other with anticipation. I always speak with the ride operators beforehand so everything runs calmly and safely – all you have to do is enjoy the moment.

And once the carousel begins to turn, that moment belongs entirely to the two of you for a few spins – those carefree images are exactly what I love most about an engagement photoshoot at Oktoberfest.

The most beautiful backdrops for your Wiesn couple shoot
Oktoberfest offers so much more than beer tents. For couple photos, I especially love these spots:
- Rides with character: the chain carousel, the Ferris wheel or a nostalgic horse carousel.
- Gingerbread-heart stalls: perfect for a small detail – maybe with a message that's truly yours.
- The lights at dusk: when twilight arrives and everything starts to glow, it becomes genuinely magical.
- Quiet corners on the edges: for the soft, intimate moments between just the two of you.
If you love the classic Tracht mood, you'll find even more ideas about Dirndl, traditional dress and honest moments in my post on the Oktoberfest photoshoot in Munich.
When is the best time?
If you'd like photos with as few crowds as possible, I recommend a weekday morning. It's still calm, the rides are already running, and the light is soft and flattering.
If you're drawn to that glowing atmosphere, plan an extra half hour around dusk. That way you get both: bright, cheerful daytime images and romantic evening light with sparkling bokeh.

Why an engagement shoot makes your wedding easier
A couple shoot before the wedding is so much more than a few pretty photos. It's a little dress rehearsal for your big day.
- You get to know me – and I get to know you. On your wedding day I'm no longer a stranger, but someone you've already laughed with.
- You get comfortable with the camera. After an hour at the Wiesn you know how to feel at ease – and on the big day you'll be far more relaxed.
- You'll have images ready for your planning: for save-the-date cards, invitations or your wedding website.

What to wear
Tracht is of course a dream – but by no means a must. What matters is that you feel comfortable and that your outfits harmonise in colour, for example both in rosé and berry tones, or in green and cream.
A flower crown or a beautiful necklace turns a Dirndl into something special. And honestly: comfortable shoes are worth their weight in gold at the Wiesn – we move around a lot, and your feet will thank you.

Ready for your own Wiesn shoot?
An engagement photoshoot at Oktoberfest is probably the most carefree way to begin your wedding planning – full of laughter, lights and that feeling of having the carousel all to yourselves for a moment. And if the Wiesn isn't in season, we'll find another fitting spot together, whether in autumn light by a lake or right in the heart of Munich.
